Children's Day
In aid of the Garry Chappelow Memorial Fund
Aviator Allstars took part in the Garry Chappelow Memorial Fund -
Children's Day, an event run in partnership with the Leeds Rugby Youth
Foundation and opened by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds.
Held at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium on Saturday the 16th of August,
the cheerleaders put on a show for the visiting children, mixed with
other local cheerleading teams, helped to spread the word about cheerleading
and even signed the odd autograph.
The cheerleaders, from the Leeds University Celtics program, started
the day outside the gates throwing basket tosses and putting up jaw
dropping stunts to keep the queuing crowd entertained, and kept the
energy going all the way through to the afternoon where they performed
stunts and built pyramids with another local Leeds team. The team also
handed out free interactive CDs which were aimed at raising the level
of awareness of cheerleading.
The event was enjoyed by the Aviators and most importantly the children
who came to watch. Event organiser Les Marshall capped
the end of the day by just saying "We'll be seeing you next year
then?", which he certainly will do.
The Garry Chappelow Memorial Fund and the Leeds Rugby Foundation, "want
the day to provide children, young people and their families with a
fun, interesting and positive day out, where they can take part in a
variety of sport and activities."
